About Morro Bay
Dominated by the iconic 576-foot Morro Rock, Morro Bay is a central hub for coastal recreation supported by Cayucos to the north, Los Osos and Montaña de Oro State Park to the south, and Morro Strand State Beach. Surfers flock to the consistent waves on either side of Morro Rock and the point breaks at Cayucos Pier, while the rocky intertidal shelves at Montaña de Oro feature world-class tide pools packed with sea stars and urchins. Inside the sheltered bay, clammers and crabbers harvest gapers, Washington clams, and Dungeness crabs. Checking tide predictions is crucial here to target negative low tides for digging clams on the bay mudflats and safely exploring the exposed tide pools beneath Montaña de Oro’s cliffs.
