About Westbrook

A quiet, marsh-lined coastal town, Westbrook encompasses Duck Island Roads, the Menunketesuck River, and Salt Island. It is a fantastic destination for kayaking to offshore islands, wading, and coastal birdwatching. The unique geography of Salt Island is entirely controlled by the tide; during a dead low tide, a massive sandbar emerges from the Sound, allowing adventurous visitors to literally walk across the ocean floor to explore the island, provided they carefully track the returning high tide to avoid getting stranded.
