About Amelia Island

A historic and deeply scenic barrier island near the Georgia border, Amelia Island covers Fern Beach, Fort Clinch State Park, and Burney Park at American Beach. The pristine, wide beaches are perfect for uncrowded beach walking, surf fishing, horseback riding on the beach, and hunting for fossilized shark teeth along high-tide drift lines. Horseback riding along the shoreline is highly tide-dependent; local outfitters require a low tide to ensure a wide, hard-packed sandy path for the horses, which simultaneously allows beachcombers to follow the receding water and hunt for fresh shark teeth.
