About Cedar Key

An eclectic island community famous for its aquaculture, Cedar Key covers the town's Beach & Fishing Pier and the surrounding barrier islands. Visitors immerse themselves in learning about historic clam-farming history, sampling the world-famous local clam chowder, kayaking out to the ruins of Atsena Otie Key, and birdwatching along the salt marsh boardwalks. The booming clam-farming industry and recreational kayaking are completely bound to the tides; high tide is strictly required to float boats over the sprawling, expansive mudflats that surround the islands.
