About Steinhatchee

Nestled under massive live oaks where the Steinhatchee River meets the Gulf of Mexico, this historic fishing village is famous for its Old Florida feel. The massive grass flats just offshore make it a premier destination for summertime scalloping, kayak fishing, and targeting speckled trout and redfish in the shallow Gulf waters. Boaters must be incredibly tide-aware when departing the river; the mouth of the Steinhatchee is flanked by treacherous, shallow limestone outcroppings that are heavily exposed during a low tide, making high-water navigation a priority.
