About Sunbury

A quiet, historic coastal hamlet overlooking the Medway River, this area encompasses the Revolutionary War earthworks of Fort Morris and the Sunbury waterfront. Visitors enjoy touring the historic fort earthworks, inshore salt-creek fishing for red drum, and birdwatching along the expansive Medway River marshes. Anglers fishing the salt creeks rely heavily on an incoming tide to flood the thick marsh grass, which allows red drum to push into the shallows to feed on crabs, while a low tide provides the best visibility for birdwatchers spotting wading herons in the exposed mudflats near Fort Morris.
