About Pāʻia

Located along Maui’s windward north shore, Pāʻia is an energetic ocean town encompassing Hoʻokipa Beach Park, Tavares Bay, Mamaʻs Beach, and the deep-water big-wave venue Jaws (Pe’ahi). Hoʻokipa is the windsurfing capital of the world, offering high-performance wave-riding for windsurfers, kitesurfers, and traditional surfers, while Mamaʻs Beach provides a small, tide-protected lagoon for swimming. Tracking tide predictions is vital: low tide exposes sharp fossilized reef shelves along Hoʻokipa’s entry zones and makes Tavares Bay reef breaks shallow, while high tides create heavy shorebreak surges along the narrow beach parks.
