Calais tides
Predicted from Pettegrove Point, Dochet Island, NOAA station 8410834, 8 miles away. This is the largest tide in the United States. The range runs to twenty feet or more — the Bay of Fundy reaching round the corner — and the water moves fast enough to be dangerous. Flats that look like solid ground at low water are under three storeys of sea six hours later, and the current through the narrows runs hard enough to reverse the falls at Pembroke. Do not walk out without knowing when the tide turns. Heights in feet above MLLW. Also covers the St. Croix River, Dochet Island and Robbinston.

About Calais
Sitting on the Canadian border, Calais covers the historic St. Croix River, Dochet Island (St. Croix Island International Historic Site), and the village of Robbinston. The maritime history is deep, with visitors viewing the island where the French first wintered in 1604, kayaking, and fishing. The St. Croix River experiences phenomenal tidal fluctuations that drastically alter the shoreline; boaters looking to launch into the river or kayak around Dochet Island must strictly utilize a high tide, as a low tide leaves the riverbanks flanked by massive, towering, and unnavigable mudflats.
