About Point Lookout
Sitting at the dramatic confluence of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay, this historic peninsula covers Point Lookout State Park, the Potomac mouth, and its associated lighthouses. Visitors spend time hiking coastal bluffs to the historic 1833 Turkey Point Lighthouse landmark (often associated with the Upper Bay but noted here), enjoying panoramic views where the Elk and Susquehanna Rivers meet, and surf casting. Anglers surf casting at the point rely heavily on the powerful tidal currents; an outgoing tide flushes massive amounts of baitfish from the Potomac River directly into the Chesapeake, creating incredible ambush points for striped bass and bluefish just off the beach.
