Nova Scotia Tide Charts

Port Hood tides

Predicted from the Port Hood gauge, 1 miles away. The Northumberland Strait has a small range, four feet or so, and shallow sand that warms through the summer — the warmest salt water north of the Carolinas, which is why these beaches are what they are. The tide matters less here than almost anywhere else in the province. Heights in metres above Chart Datum. Also covers Port Hood Island, Mabou and the Ceilidh Trail.

About Port Hood

Billed as the "Beach Capital of Cape Breton," Port Hood covers Port Hood Island, neighboring Mabou, and the start of the Ceilidh Trail. The string of five incredible sandy beaches is heavily utilized for shelling, town walking, clamming, and swimming in the remarkably warm Gulf waters. The massive sandy shoals between the mainland and Port Hood Island are heavily influenced by the tide; a low tide exposes incredibly wide, flat sandbars that are perfect for safe, shallow swimming and exploring the sand flats for marine life.
