Basin Head tides
Predicted from the North Lake Harbour gauge, 6 miles away. The north shore faces the Gulf of St Lawrence and runs a small tide — three or four feet — over sand that shifts with every storm. The dunes here move, and the sandbars offshore are never quite where they were last year. What the tide governs is the crossing to the bars and the depth over them, which matters to anyone swimming out. The rip currents along this shore are the real hazard rather than the range. Heights in metres above Chart Datum. Also covers the singing sands, the run and the Fisheries Museum.

About Basin Head
Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in Canada, Basin Head covers the famous "singing sands," the "run" (the bridge/channel), and the Fisheries Museum. It is wildly popular for jumping off the Basin Head bridge into the channel, red sand beach walking, camping on ocean bluffs, and warm ocean swimming. Jumping off the bridge is a local rite of passage entirely controlled by the tides; jumpers exclusively wait for the powerful incoming tide, which creates a deep, fast-moving, and incredibly fun "lazy river" effect that safely sweeps swimmers into the lagoon.
