Point Prim tides
Predicted from the Point Prim gauge, 2 miles away. The south shore faces the Northumberland Strait, where the tide is small — three feet or so — and the water is the warmest salt water north of the Carolinas. Shallow red sand that has been in the sun all day does that. Low water walks out a long way over flats that hold clams and quahogs. Harvesting is regulated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada; check the current closures first. Heights in metres above Chart Datum. Also covers the lighthouse, the Northumberland shore and Orwell Bay.

About Point Prim
The oldest lighthouse on PEI sits at the end of this spectacular peninsula, which also covers the Northumberland shore and Orwell Bay. The area is highly popular for picnicking, kayaking, clamming on the sandbars, and viewing the historic brick lighthouse landmark. Exploring the massive, rocky reef extending from Point Prim is entirely controlled by the tide; a low tide exposes the rugged, fossil-rich rock formations and tide pools surrounding the lighthouse, allowing for incredible photography and beachcombing before the strait reclaims the point.
