Thunder Cove tides
Predicted from the Malpeque gauge, 4 miles away. The north shore faces the Gulf of St Lawrence and runs a small tide — three or four feet — over sand that shifts with every storm. The dunes here move, and the sandbars offshore are never quite where they were last year. What the tide governs is the crossing to the bars and the depth over them, which matters to anyone swimming out. The rip currents along this shore are the real hazard rather than the range. Heights in metres above Chart Datum. Also covers the Teacup Rock site, Twin Shores and Darnley Basin.

About Thunder Cove
Home to some of PEI's most iconic coastal geology, Thunder Cove encompasses the famous Teacup Rock site (note: unfortunately, Teacup Rock was destroyed by Hurricane Fiona in 2022, but the surrounding sea stacks remain), Twin Shores, and Darnley Basin. Visitors flock here for sea kayaking, exploring sandstone caves, tide pooling, rolling sand dune walking, and swimming in the Gulf waters. Exploring the fragile, spectacular sandstone sea caves and arches absolutely requires a dead low tide; high water crashes violently against the cliffs, completely cutting off access to the beach and the caves.
