About Palos Verdes
The dramatic, cliff-lined Palos Verdes Peninsula encompasses rugged coastal destinations including Malaga Cove, Lunada Bay, Point Vicente, Abalone Cove, Terranea, and Palos Verdes Estates. Powerful, heavy reef and point breaks at Lunada Bay and Malaga Cove cater to expert surfers, while the rocky intertidal shelves at Abalone Cove and Point Vicente contain some of LA County's richest tide pools, filled with sea stars, anemones, urchins, and sea hares. Checking tide charts is strictly mandatory across Palos Verdes: negative low tides are required to step out onto the fragile rocky reefs safely, and high tides cause crashing waves against steep bluffs, making narrow cove beaches completely impassable.
