About Pismo Beach
Pismo Beach is famous for its classic boardwalk, wide drivable sands, and historic clamming legacy, covering Pismo Pier, Shell Beach, Grover Beach, Oceano, and the Oceano Dunes. Surfers line up on both sides of the Pismo Pier for reliable beach breaks, while the rocky coves and sea caves of Shell Beach to the north offer rich tide pooling. Pismo Beach is world-renowned for the Pismo clam, with recreational harvesting taking place on the broad intertidal flats. Monitoring tide tables is mandatory: harvesters require low spring tides to reach legal-sized clams, drivers on Oceano Dunes must avoid getting trapped by incoming high tides, and tide poolers need low tide to access Shell Beach's sea caves safely.
