About Playa Naranjo
Located within the wild expanse of Santa Rosa National Park, Playa Naranjo is world-famous for its iconic offshore volcanic monolith, Witch’s Rock. This remote, undeveloped gray-sand beach is a pilgrimage site for experienced surfers drawn to its fast, hollow beach breaks, while the surrounding wilderness offers beachcombing for driftwood and shell fragments alongside rich coastal wildlife. Facilities are non-existent, making self-sufficiency essential for visitors. Checking tide charts is mandatory for anyone venturing here: mid-to-high tide is strictly required to surf the famous barrels at Witch’s Rock, as low tide drains the break over shallow sandbars, while tidal tracking also dictates whether 4x4 vehicles can navigate the park's notoriously muddy, seasonal access road.
