About Tamarindo
Tamarindo is an energetic beach town and surfing capital, covering a vast stretch of coastline that includes Playa Grande, Playa Avellanas, Playa Negra, Playa San Juanillo, and the protected estuaries of Las Baulas National Marine Park. Surfers of all levels find wave choices here, from gentle beach breaks at Tamarindo to world-class reef and point breaks at Avellanas and Negra. The Tamarindo estuary offers peaceful kayak tours through mangrove ecosystems, while San Juanillo provides protected snorkeling coves. Knowing the tides is crucial: high tide is needed to cross the river mouth safely between Tamarindo and Playa Grande and to surf the shallow reef at Playa Negra, whereas low tide opens wide sand stretches for walking and exposes rich intertidal rock pools at San Juanillo.
