About Friday Harbor
As the vibrant commercial hub of San Juan Island, Friday Harbor provides access to a diverse array of surrounding coastal destinations, including Lime Kiln Point, Cattle Point, South Beach, Westcott Bay, Garrison Bay, and English Camp. While traditional surfing is absent, South Beach offers the island's longest stretch of pebbles and sand for beachcombing, while the rocky ledges at Cattle Point and Lime Kiln Point host vibrant tide pools filled with sea stars, barnacles, and urchins. Shell fishing thrives in the protected bays of Westcott and Garrison, yielding butter clams and oysters. Knowing the tide schedule is critical here to safely explore the rocky shelves below Cattle Point without getting stranded by rising water, time clamming digs at English Camp, and anticipate the heavy tidal currents that draw marine mammals right past Lime Kiln Point.
