About Kalaloch
Situated along the wild, southwestern coast of the Olympic National Park, Kalaloch features expansive, windswept sandy beaches backed by temperate rainforest bluffs and coastal driftwood. While heavy ocean swells and cold waters draw adventurous surfers to its open beach breaks, the area is best known for its iconic natural features—including the famous Kalaloch Tree Root Cave (Tree of Life), Beach 4, and Ruby Beach just to the north. Beach 4 hosts some of the region\u0027s finest tide pooling, where low water reveals vibrant marine gardens packed with ochre sea stars, giant green anemones, and goose barnacles on exposed rock benches. Seasonal razor clamming is also popular along the broad sandy flats during state-sanctioned digs. Keeping a close eye on tide charts is essential when visiting Kalaloch: a low tide is mandatory to walk beneath the suspended Tree of Life to view its exposed root system, safely navigate around the headlands to reach the tide pools at Beach 4, and harvest razor clams before incoming waves submerge the beach against the bluffs.
