About Puerto Baquerizo Moreno
As the administrative capital of San Cristóbal Island, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno provides access to diverse coastal environments, including urban sea lion spots like Playa Mann, the rocky surf bay at Playa Lobería, the clear snorkeling cove at Tijeretas, and the iconic white sands of Playa Cerro Brujo. Surfers rely on mid-to-high tide at Playa Lobería and Punta Carola to ride world-class point breaks alongside sea lions and marine iguanas. At low tide, the rocky volcanic shorelines at Lobería and Tijeretas uncover clear tide pools filled with Sally Lightfoot crabs, sea urchins, and lava herons. Swimming and snorkeling at Playa Mann and Cerro Brujo are best enjoyed around mid-to-high tide when the water is deep enough to glide over shallow rock and coral shelves. Strict Galápagos National Park rules prohibit taking shells, sand, or driftwood, so tide knowledge is used purely to optimize surfing conditions, spot wildlife in exposed tide pools, and ensure safe snorkeling entries.
